I spent some 3 years studying Voice at the Chicago Conservatory of Music. I remember when you first walked into the Fine Arts building, you immediately noticed the smell of fresh Bow Rosin used on the stringed instrument in the building. Did my Theory work in one of Thomas Peck's class rooms and studied Voice with Virginia Parker. The time frame of this would have been Late 1960's and early 1970's. I Loved the opera then as I do today and I am still singing. I will always remember those few years that have stayed with me all of my life. The rich cultural Values I received with having Chicago's Art Institute right across Michigan Avenue from the Fine Arts building and the Conservatory has given me memories I will never forget. Singing Christmas Carols on the steps of the Chicago Art Institute with a Cold Wind coming off of Lake Michigan that made many a snowflake churn around the statues of the Institutes Bronze Lions. Those were some very good days and years to be immersed into the Cultural Center if the City of Chicago as nothing more than a student of the Arts. Of course the Symphony played on Sundays when Sir George Solti conducted; Remember Him? and the Symphony Choir was Fabulous to say the least of them. The Opera? Just south of Orchestra Hall on the same side of the street. For Lunch, we used to go to Mr. Mike's steak house around the corner and on Wabash Avenue. That Place was "Always" just packed with people; PACKED!!!!! but the Steaks were really good and mouth watering. I have plenty in my life to be Thankful for and even "After" I left the Conservatory, I had received tickets every year to the commencement concerts free of any charges at Orchestra Hall of that years Graduating class. I have to say Honestly that I savor the days and years of being a student at the Chicago Conservatory of Music. The place and the people changed my life and have given me memories that have lasted a Lifetime. Thanks For reading, Thomas L. Milligan
