Went last week (30 minute trip there) for a mic and mic stand. Inventory is extremely limited. None of the stands (all 2 of them) come with mic clips, so those have to be purchased separately. They were also out of mic clips, and only had two microphones in stock. I will give credit as the employee who was helping me did make effort to get some mic clips in, and I do appreciate that. It seems to me that the stands should've come with the clips, but maybe not. Who knows. Anyway, I did purchase a microphone, and got home (again, 30 minute trip), to discover that the microphone itself came with a clip. I refrained from buying the stand due to lack of ability to use it, not knowing that the mic came with a microphone clip. Everyone working in the store could hear the conversation about the mic clips, yet nobody who works there knew their products well enough to know that that microphone came with a clip (and it's not a sealed product). Knowledge of product is limited, inventory is extremely limited. Thumbs up for customer service though, as some effort was made.

If you work in a music store, one that sells mostly guitars, you should know if one of your telecasters needs a knob for the selector switch. Some of the workers lack any enthusiasm for music. Outside of that, the selection is very limited. The only reason I would ever go here again is if I needed some spare pics, an aux cable, or if I was too lazy to go somewhere else. What a shame that the only music store left in town is this one.

Hands down the absolute BEST music store in Manhattan Ks. They are super friendly and helpful, unlike another music shop in town. Whatever you need it's here. I've bought ukuleles here, a guitar, drum throne, sticks, picks, straps, cables, sheet music... You can get instrument repair and service, trustworthy advice as well. They NEVER try to sell you anything you don't need, they ask you questions to determine the right product for your needs, and they have super reasonable prices! I've been to music stores all over the country, boutique stores in Nashville, chain stores in Minneapolis... Manning music in Manhattan, KS is honestly my favorite. Yes, playing a Martin in a store in Nashville was awesome, but it's the people and the service at Manning that makes them my favorite! Do yourself a favor and at least visit them before you buy elsewhere, I promise you will not regret it!

UPDATE: Since I wrote the review (below), we have now picked up the two violins, and they only charged us for the bow re-hair, not the "extra" cleaning that we didn't request. It turns out we were apparently working with a new employee, who wasn't communicating with the Topeka location very well.

So they made it "right," but it was still a hassle. I'll change my rating from 1 star to 3, but I suggest that they train their new employees, so customers don't have to wait so long for work that is done in their Topeka shop, and that you get everything in writing.

(ORIGINAL POST) I was looking forward to working with this "new" store in town. However, I found their lack of professionalism is only exceeded by their lack of timely response. I had a simple request - please re-hair two violin bows. They were sent to Topeka, no problem. Then they asked if I wanted the instruments "cleaned," and I say no thank you, just the bows. They should be "back in a week." The following week, no instruments, no bows. They are still in Topeka. No one can tell me why. Maybe they will be back next week. Finally, they are back in the Manhattan store, but they want to charge me the cleaning fee, that I DID NOT request. There was no paper trail, no recipt, which I also consider unprofessional. I will not be back, or if I cannot get the work done elsewhere, I will ASK FOR EVERYTHING IN WRITING!

Rick has absolutely the best shop around. I have him do all of my repair work and setups. I've purchased several guitars from him as well and he is always a pleasure to deal with and he guarantees and stands by all of his work. None better!!!
